About Us

IMG_0995_edited.jpg

This project is the (THE) Trans Health Empowerment, producing this website along with a variety of physical resources and downloadable resources that can be shared anywhere: in your trans group chat, on social media, your organisation aiming to help trans people. We have also published an extremely detailed academic-style paper on informed consent, how it relates to bridging prescriptions, and how it offers a future for trans healthcare in the UK that moves us out of the current crisis and places the patient's autonomy at the centre of the model of care. Our hope is that you will be able to take this to your GP and use it to help argue for a bridging prescription. We also hope that it will also lay the groundwork for further research into informed consent, which we believe has so much potential for helping create a more patient-led, and empowered, future of healthcare.

The project is a product of the Alliance for Care and Health Empowerment (ACHE). It was funded by a grant from Transforming Futures who received their funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

ACHE is an alliance of people harmed by the existing models the healthcare system operates under. We aim to work in a multiple ways, from academic research to community engagement that helps to empower people in navigating their healthcare

To contact us with queries or opportunities to work together, email: info@ache-together.org

To keep up with our future work, you can check out our                                where you can also sign up to our mailing list to hear about projects to come and be the first to hear how to get involved! We also have an                          where we share updates about our work, opportunities to work with us, and ways to access our resources if you'd like to follow along!

Trans health resources:

Tired of cis people writing our healthcare information?

Lacking all our lived experiences and missing loads of key info because they don't want to talk about T-dicks or breast growth because it's too "inappropriate"? We're tired to!

IMG_1045.jpg

So we decided to make our own resources,  going into all the "forbidden" topics in lots of detail, and not just writing about it either. We do have plenty of written resources, but we also have easy-read resources about the effects of HRT that are very image heavy, and we also created podcasts if you prefer listening to reading, or just want to listen to trans people having chats! And we also hope that the illustrations throughout our site will make it feel a little more human and a little less like just a wall of text!

Our Resources

Here are some of the resources we have developed to help trans people navigate HRT. For a complete resource directory, click below.

HRT Informaton for Transfeminine People

We have produced an incredibly in depth guide to the effects of HRT for transfeminine people, particularly going into detail on the topics other guides fail to address. We're keen to push limits and cover taboo topics like genital and sexual changes, not only vaguely gesturing to them but sharing the details often only spoken about between trans people.

HRT Information for Transmasculine People

We have produced an incredibly in depth guide to the effects of HRT for transmasculine people, particularly going into detail on the topics we've failed to see addressed elsewhere. We're keen to push limits and cover taboo topics like genital and sexual changes, not only vaguely gesturing to them but sharing the details often only spoken about between trans people.

Podcasts

All-trans guests, all-trans topics.

Eventually we aim for it to be a series of 4 podcasts covering some of the key topics surrounding:

  • The effects of HRT

  • Informed consent

  • The political landscape facing trans people in the UK

  • DIY HRT

While we hope these topics will be powerful ones, we also hope it will be a nice chance to just watch trans people chat to each other as well!

Easy-Read Guide to HRT

One thing we realised was that with all the HRT guides out there outlining what effects to expect and roughly when, we'd never seen an easy-read version. Easy-read versions make information easier to understand for people with dyslexia, learning disabilities, and those who have difficulty reading.

All of these groups already experience added discrimination when it comes to trans healthcare, so it's essential to address the lack of information made available to these groups.
