Preparation:

Ensure you have all necessary supplies.

Draw the Medication:

Attach the needle to the syringe.
-
Pull back the plunger to draw air into the syringe, equal to the dose you will be injecting.

Insert the needle into the vial and push the air in.

Turn the vial upside down and pull back the plunger to draw the correct dose into the syringe

Choosing an Injection Site:

Common sites for intramuscular injections include the upper outer quadrant of the buttocks or the thigh.

For subcutaneous injections, the abdomen (avoiding the navel area) or the thigh are common sites.

Rotate injection sites - so inject in a different spot to last time

Administering the Injection:

Clean the chosen injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry.

For intramuscular injections: Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle into the muscle.

For subcutaneous injections: Pinch the skin and insert the needle at a 45-degree angle.

Push the plunger slowly and steadily.

Withdraw the needle at the same angle it was inserted.
